MINISTRY COUNCIL KICKS OFF 2018
The Ministry Council met for the first time in 2018 on Monday, January 22. The purpose of this meeting is to update the church leadership on the ministry and business of the church.
This year, Pastor Keith and the Executive Committee have charged the staff and leadership to focus specifically on encouraging a new and intentional culture of invitation and emphasis on young families with children, youth and young adults. We want to reach people that may not know Christ or may not know the importance of community and relationships.
Meetings are taking place to discuss our Mission Statement and how it can be communicated internally and externally. Our ministry staff is working to build their programming to align with our focus by using their resources, talents and volunteers. This is a time of excitement and refreshment for the church and something that the entire congregation can be a part in connecting others to the greater life in Jesus.
Pastor Barbara Fyffe shared information about a new-to-us ministry, Stephen Ministry.
Stephen Ministry is the one-to-one lay caring ministry that takes place in congregations that use the Stephen Series system.
Stephen Ministry congregations equip and empower lay caregivers—called Stephen Ministers—to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting. Stephen Ministers are congregation members trained by Stephen Leaders to offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to people going through tough times. A Stephen Minister usually provides care to one person at a time, meeting with that person once a week for about an hour. Twice a month, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing education. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Pastor Barbara.
James Gilbert, Trustee Chair updated the Council on the Manvel Land Aquisition project. After making offers and counter-offers, the Trustees felt it was important to have the land appraised for its true value and then decide how to move forward. More updates will be available soon.
The next Ministry Council meeting will be held April 23, at 7:00 pm in the Assembly Room. Ministry Council meetings are open meetings; all FUMC members are welcome to attend.
