Missions and Outreach

Missions and Outreach

One of our core values is to intentionally reach out as the hands and feet of Christ to those in need. The purpose of our missions and outreach ministry is to help those most vulnerable in our community. We believe that building relationships is the key to Connecting All to a Greater Life in Christ.

Our Missions Network meets monthly to seek out areas in our area that we can help. Through mentoring, serving the homeless and offering emergency grocery bags (just to name a few) we come together as a church family to share our blessings and faith to build the Kingdom of Christ.

One Sunday each Spring, FUMC Pearland hits the streets! The congregation meets for a brief early morning worship service and then breaks out into groups serving a wide range of ways in our community and our world. Sign-up for the various service projects takes place for about a month prior to Be the Church day.

We are assisting Loaves and Fishes by collecting toiletry and hygiene items for people in need. Please bring the following to the bins in the FLC Lobby or Narthex:

-hotel size toiletries
-sunscreen (trial size)
-gold bond (trial size)
-emery boards

FUMC Pearland supports many local, national and international organizations. We also have opportunities to serve with these organizations or to support them financially. Please contact Rahel Yoo for more information.

Once a quarter, FUMC Pearland serves lunch at Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen in Downtown Houston. Last year Loaves and Fishes served about 95,000 meals-that's 200-400 meals per day, six days a week (Tuesday-Sunday). They are a member of the Magnificat Houses Ministry. Loaves and Fishes is funded by donations and greatly aided by volunteers-who are always needed! And we are a grateful member of the Houston Food Bank, with additional support from area farmers and food donors. Check our calendar or this page to find out our next dates to serve.

Christian Helping Hands is a local ministry of churches to people in need that was established in 1984. C.H.H. provides a food pantry, utility/rental assistance and other ongoing and annual assistance programs. FUMC Pearland supports CHH with a financial gift each month, regular donations of food and by volunteering throughout the year.

Meals on Wheels is a cooperation of local churches that deliver hot meals to shut-ins and homebound members of our community. FUMC Pearland supports Meals on Wheels with a financial gift each month and by providing volunteers to pick up and deliver meals every five weeks.

FUMC provides food and gifts to families in the community. Church members are given the opportunity to adopt a family in October and then deliver the baskets in November.

Kidz Harbor is a foster care facility located in Liverpool, Texas, that is dedicated to providing a safe harbor for children caught in the storms of life. Their mission is to provide foster children a safe, clean, and nurturing environment in which to live. FUMC Pearland supports Kidz Harbor by sending volunteers to work on the construction of a group home, donating care items, and organizing activities for the kids. Kidz Harbor has an ongoing need for liquid bath soap and laundry detergent.

UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief)
UMCOR is the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church. Through our children, youth and adult ministries, FUMC Pearland supports UMCOR by providing relief supplies when needed. Hundreds of flood buckets and school supply kits have been sent to UMCOR's Sager Brown depot in Louisiana. Disaster Relief teams are sent to areas of the United States when called for disaster relief. FUMC Pearland sends a monetary donation from the Mission Fund to the following UMCOR Special Advance Projects each year: One Great Hour of Sharing, Native American Ministries, Peace with Justice, World Communion Sunday, United Methodist Student Day. To learn more about UMCOR and how these donations are used, go to umcor.org.

FUMC Pearland supports Builders Without Borders of Texas, a non-profit organization, in its ministry to the poor in Mexico. Mission teams participate in the construction of schools and homes, as well as medical clinics. We helped build and continue to support Hecho a Mano, a sewing school for women in Carbonera, with donations. Items from the sewing school are brought to the church and can be purchased in the lobby of the Family Life Center. Donations of fabric are collected on an ongoing basis for the sewing school and can be placed in collection bins in church lobbies at any time. We also offer an opportunity for individuals to donate to the College Sponsorship Program in Reynosa.

Kenbe Fem is a children’s home in Haiti whose mission is to rescue children who are orphaned or abandoned and raise them in a loving, Christ-centered, family environment, instilling them with value and hope. FUMC Pearland supports Kenbe Fem with monthly financial support as well as sending mission teams to work on the construction of the children’s home property and carry out Vacation Bible School to children in nearby villages of Haiti.
