Disciple: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study is an approach to Bible study that emphasizes disciplined reading of and listening to Scripture. It results in biblically nourished persons committed to live as disciples. During the course of 34 weeks, Disciple groups move through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. All Disciple Bible study participants will read more than 70 percent of the Bible. The scripture for each session follows the chronological movement of the biblical story. Disciple groups meet weekly for a period of 34 weeks. Each participant makes a commitment to daily preparation (30 - 45 minutes per day) and weekly attendance and participation in class. Disciple aims at transformation, not just information.
I have personally participated in and led several Disciple Bible studies over the years. I have seen lives transformed because of participation in Disciple. Lifelong friendships developed from being together in a small group setting over the course of months. People discovered spiritual gifts they have and were not fully using. Some also discovered new areas of ministry where they could use their gifts and find fulfilment. Don't let this next one scare you - I know of a few people who went through the Disciple study and it led to their answering a call into ministry! Transformation can happen in many ways when we open ourselves up to God's call and leading.
A class will meet on Wednesday evenings, 6:30- 8:00 pm. Pastor Reggie and Susan McElya are planning to co-lead this class. Start date September 3rd.
