Methodist Children’s Program

WELCOME TO METHODIST CHILDREN’S PROGRAM (MCP)

MCP has been operating for over 50 years and has grown to become a model school in our area. MCP is an extension of the educational ministry of First United Methodist Church (FUMC) Pearland. MCP is licensed by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services and governed by Cognia during the Accreditation process. MCP Classrooms maintain a low student to teacher ratio, with two teachers per class. In addition to well-planned classroom schedules, students attend Chapel, Music, Science, Art, P.E. and Language Development classes to enrich their learning.

Classes

  • Children's Day Out

Children's Day Out is for children ages 12 months through 3 years old.  Daily schedules foster fine & gross motor development, cooperative play, language acquisition, and cognitive development. Activities provide children with opportunities for creative self-expression.

    CDO is a two-day program.

  • Pre-K

Pre-K is for children 4 years of age on September 1st of the current school year. These classes are designed as a Kindergarten Readiness Program.  Instruction includes a formal introduction to the alphabet, phonemic awareness, mathematical concepts, and problem solving.

    Pre-K is a two or four-day program.

  • Kindergarten

Kindergarten is for children 5 years of age on September 1st of the current school year. It follows the same guidelines as prescribed by the Texas State Board of Education. Our Kindergarten provides a low student-teacher ratio of no more than 14 to 2.  Curriculum is based around thematic units. The integrated curriculum reflects the developmental needs and interest of the students.

    Kindergarten is a four-day program.

Two-day programs are offered either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.  Four-day programs are Monday through Thursday. All program hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The Methodist Children’s Program is closed on Fridays. We closely follow the Pearland Independent School District’s school calendar for holidays and breaks.

Teacher Training

Every teacher is required to participate in training designed specifically for Early Childhood Educators each year. Our teachers strive to maintain the highest quality of standards. We conduct a complete criminal background check, including FBI fingerprinting, on all staff members. CPR and First Aid certification are required for all staff members.

Program License

The program is licensed by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services. Its purpose is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the social, emotional, spiritual, physical and cognitive development of young children. Developmentally appropriate activities are carefully planned and provide opportunities for self-expression, freedom of choice, self-reliance, and individuality.
