Walk To Emmaus

The Walk to Emmaus is a Spiritual renewal weekend—not an actual walk. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and walked with them. – Luke 24:15

The Walk to Emmaus offers today’s disciples an opportunity, much like the disciples of Jesus’ time, to rediscover Christ’s presence in their lives, gain a fresh understanding of God’s transforming grace, and form friendships that foster faith and support spiritual maturity.

The weekend begins on Thursday evening and concludes late Sunday afternoon. Participants step out of the outside world for 72 hours. They are asked to be fully attentive to the events of the weekend: no outside interruptions, remain for the entire weekend, and only emergency phone calls or text messages.

The weekend is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship, and daily celebration of Holy Communion.  The “Emmaus community,” made up of those who have attended an Emmaus weekend, support the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil and by preparing and serving meals, as well as other acts of love and self-giving.  Men and women attend separate walks. We are part of the Houston Bay Area Emmaus Community and Walks are held at the Lodge in Danbury.

FUMC Pearland’s Emmaus Community stands ready to sponsor church members who wish to attend the retreat. Through the years, we have experienced a large Emmaus Community and it has benefitted our spiritual growth to do so.
